Sample ImageCellaring Wine in Your Kitchen

Can you keep wine at home? If you do not have a cellar, you should at least isolate your wine bottles.

The best place to cellar your wine isn’t necessary in your kitchen but on the north side of your house. Pick a place close to your north wall, put the boxes there and cover them, that way they can hold on for a few months.

A better idea would be to buy a wine cooler cabinet. An electrical wine cabinet will do an excellent work; the refrigerator ensures a stable temperature between 10 and 14 ° C.

You can find a wine cooler cabinet starting from $160 and up to $14,000.

Good places to look for wine cooler cabinets online are:

  1. Unbeatablesale.com
  2. Amazon.com
  3. Shop.com

Things to consider before buying a wine cabinet

1. Make sure the cabinet minimize vibration which damages the wine.

2. Ideally the wine cabinet will have the option to control humidity.

3. Always prefer a full door to a glass door.

Picking the right wine cabinet will prevent a premature aging and ensure the best quality for your wine.

How to Build a Wine Cellar?

It’s not so complicated to understand how to build a wine cellar after understanding the storage conditions that wine requires:

  1. Dark environment
  2. No vibrations
  3. No bad smells.
  4. Bottles laying Horizontally (so the caps wont deteriorate quickly and let the air in, which will ruin the wine)
  5. Fixed temperature.

So how do you build a wine cellar?

  1. Choose a dark environment (basement or any other dark place will do)
  2. Make sure there are no vibrations in that room (no big electrical equipment)
  3. Make sure there are no bad smells around like a smell of gas, benzene or standing water.
  4.  Build shelves. That way your bottles will lie horizontally.
  5. Don’t use plywood or cardboard which absorb water.
  6. Make sure that there isn’t a big temperature difference between day and night. Insulate your wine cellar so the wine won’t be damaged.
  7. If you can’t sustain a temperature of up to 15 ° C (60 F) for red wine and 10 degrees C (50 F) for white wine then you should consider installing a cooling unit, preferably an air conditioner which reject the heat outside. Minimum Temperature should be 4° C (9 F) below the mentioned limit.

More things you should know:

1. The conservation of red wine can take 5 years at 18 ° C maximum, and 15 years at 15 ° C (60 F) maximum.

2. The conservation of a natural wine or a dry white wine can last 5 years at 12 ° C maximum, and 15 years at 10 degrees C (50 F) maximum.

How to Make Wine from Grapes?

The easiest wine to make is Rose. So if this is the first time you are making wine then you should try to start with a Rose.

Get grapes to your liking, then squeeze them into a bucket and leave the bucket over the night without doing anything. The next day, press the grapes and extract the juice out of them. If you are starting small then you can just use a colander to separate your juice from the waste. Pour the juice into a bottle but leave 25% of the bottle empty. Cover the bottle with a plastic bag and make some holes in the bag.

 Sample Image

The wine will naturally begin to ferment, and this system will prevent undesirable elements from entering while allowing the gas to escape without a problem.
Put your bottle in a room which is neither too hot nor too cold and leave it there for 10 days. After 10 days, take a small flexible plastic hose, and move the liquid from your bottle to another smaller bottle using siphon. That way your wine will be filtered properly and not passing along any waste with it.

You can divide your wine between a few smaller bottles if you want, just make sure to fill them to the brim. Close the bottles with a plastic: therefore, expect a cylinder or two smaller ones, because the liquid racked necessarily take less volume. Close with a plastic top bound by a rubber band on the neck, because the wine is still fermenting for another 3 months and only then it would "calm down".

You can drink your wine after 3 months or wait a whole year to achieve the best results.

Its not that complicated, just try it out a few times and you’ll see how simple it truly is.

How to Make Cheap Wine at Home

So you want to know how to make cheap wine at home? But first of all you should know that making wine is a complex matter that must be made by competent persons. Getting a good wine from grape clusters can not be due to chance, especially now that the oenological techniques are perfected, if not sophisticated.

If the climate, soils and grapes are important factors for the success of wine, talented winemaker can enhance these natural elements.

The grapes must be picked at the right time, and go through a process of crushing, fermentation, maceration and pressing. The pressing should prepare the grapes for the malolactic fermentation (a process of a change in wine where tart malic acid is converted to softer-tasting lactic acid. It is accomplished by lactic acid bacteria (such as Oenococcus oeni), which consume malic acid to produce energy. It can occur naturally. However, in commercial wine making, malolactic conversion typically is initiated by an inoculation of desirable bacteria. )

But since you want to know how to make wine at home – here is a recipe for making orange wine at home.

Sample Image

You will need:
2 litres of rosé wine,

1 / 2 litre of brandy,

Zest of 2 oranges (untreated),

5 coffee beans,

500g of sugar,

1 cup 1 / 2 water.

Place the orange zest in a large jar sealing. Add the coffee beans, wine and brandy. Let it all rest for a month. After a month filter your wine and make syrup from sugar and water. When cooled, mix the wine and the syrup together and put the mixture into bottles.

Wait a month before consuming.
